Greetings,

I just had a phone call from a visitor who has just completed a Carnival Cruise which stopped briefly in Halifax and Saint John. Unfortunately, I never did meet him since the ship arrived late into Halifax and we never did connect. He reported seeing the usual pelagics offshore but the most intriguing report was of a EURASIAN CURLEW in Saint John. The bird was sighted on the mud flats about 1/4 mile east of the cruise ship docks. Apparently it is very close to a heavy industrial area in the doxckyard. I do not know the area so cannot be more specific. The day of the sighting was last Wednesday, September 6. Hopefully some NB birders monitor this line and will be able to get the word out to the locals. The birder's name is Mark Collie and he will be back in Boise, Idaho on Tuesday. Mark is not on email but I have a cell phone number and a snail mail address for him. He is quite prepared to submit a rare bird sighting report if he is told where to send it.

Regards,

Bob McDonald,
Halifax
