Kier and I went for a canoe ride this morning and I heard the black-backs near a woodlot on our neighbours property. We came ashore and found the pair of woodpeckers with many other birds. There were Northern flickers with their newly fledged young, hairy woodpeckers, downy woodpeckers. There were many newly fledged birds including juncos, yellow-rumped warblers and palm warblers. I cannot tell if the black-backs bred, but I do know that the young, if there were any, would probably be long gone by now.
