H all: It was a great day for walking and shorebirding along the Cole Harbour Salt Marsh Trail, HRM, with the fog lifting as the tide was flooding 2 hr after Halifax high water (as recommmended by others). Along thr whole length I estimated about 2400-2700 Semipalmated Sabndpipers (different sweeps, estimating by 100's) within binocular range, with the usual sprinklings of Leasts (many) and Whipe-rumped (few). Great studies possible, but I looked in vain for exotics. I also estimated about 300-350 yellowlegs, almost all Greater. There were, unexpected by me, rather few dowitchers and Black-bellied Plovers - perhaps fewer than 100 of each seen. I've commented before on the nice show of weedy flowers along that trail. Noteed today some nice Potentilla recta, one of the showier cinquefoils. It's introduced and said to be regular around the province, but I don't see it that often. Cheers, Ian
