I happened upon a nice bunch of shorebirds at Martinique Beach yesterday morning located as usual on the crescent beach at the eastern end. A White-rumped Sandpiper had the courtesy to pose beside a Semipalmated Sandpiper offering a nice side by side comparison of these species, two photos attached.

Monarch Butterflies have been visiting our garden in Portuguese Cove daily of late and frequenting the purple cone flowers. This flower was also a favourite of the Monarch Butterfly on the prairies, one photo.

On Saturday on a hike with two others I photographed a young male Common Yellowthroat at MacIntosh Run in Halifax. This bird is always a great photographic subject due to its relative tameness.

Hans
