Hi,

I went up to Mooseland last night, and did the NSBS's Taylor Head
field trip this morning, then looked at the Grand Desert, Lawrenetown
and Conrad's Beach areas on the way home. There were plenty of birds
to be seen everywhere, and the weather was gorgeous. For me the
highlights (in order ) were -

Along the Mooseland Rd. around 8am - A juv. Broad-winged Hawk posing
in a spruce, being repeatedly mobbed by angry Robins and Warblers. A
little farther along, there was an excellent wave of Warblers, mostly
Palm, Blackpoll, C.Yellowthroat and Magnolia, + a few others.

At the entrance to Taylor Head P.P., the 1st Boreal Chickadees I have
seen all summer, and 2 more Broadwings circling over.

Taylor Head Beach - a very healthy-looking population of Common Terns,
some of whom were aggressively mobbing a Bald Eagle in flight.

Tangier River - about 12 Hooded Mergansers.

Grand Desert, 3-Fathom Harbor etc. - good selection of Shorebirds.

Conrad's Beach - 1 ad. breeding plumage and 1 basic plumage Black-headed Gull

Everywhere after around 2pm - the great cloudscapes, with spectacular
thunder-heads and dark bases, but no rain except right under them.

Richard
