Joyce Norris sent me a couple of good photos of the fish she was inquiring about, and after a quick look in my "McClane's Field Guide to Saltwater Fishes of North America" (1978) I came up with a fish called AMERICAN JOHN DORY (Zenopsis ocellata) that appears to be a good match.
