Personal Growth
Weekly and monthly small group
meetings offer an opportunity for men to reflect our lives and
experiences. We overcome the taboo against sharing our feelings with
each other about issues such as relationships, commitment, sexism, anger,
competition, male role models, fatherhood and so on. We explore the
various ways men have been conditioned to deny our feelings, to be
competitive, to feel compelled to live up to the stereotypes associated
with being "a real man." Because men hide common feelings of weakness,
fear, and inadequacy, we are burdened with inner doubt and
powerlessness. And if we could communicate these feelings in a healthy
way, and learn about how we use or misuse power then we would not resort
to controlling behaviors and violence.
"Man's inherent nature is to be curious, gentle,
intimate, responsible, enthusiastic, sensual, tolerant, courageous, honest, vulnerable,
affectionate, proud, spiritual, committed, wild, nurturing, peaceful,
helpful, intense, compassionate, happy, and to fully and safely express
all emotions.

otherwise?"-
