Extended Characters
NOTE that not all browsers can show these characters. Some may try to
substitute the closest thing and others will treat the characters as
lower ASCII characters with 128 subtracted from the code you use
(depending on whether 7-bit or 8-bit transmission is in use). One model
of Wyse terminal supports MOST of the extended characters and uses a thick
backwards question-mark for those characters it doesn't support. Others may
generate characters from an entirely different extended character set and
result in garbage on the screen. Remember, platform independance means,
in part, restricting yourself to features supported by ALL systems!

That's All, Folks
You might prefer to view an improved version
of this page that includes character entity names. This page is left
here for those who have bookmarked it and may prefer the older format.
I also have a new page with some of the new character entity references in
HTML 4.0 for symbols, mathematical
symbols, and Greek letters for mathematical use and a chart of preferred
substitutes for Windows cp1252
characters.
