  • Isabella, baptized 5 July 1798 (St. Paul's Anglican Church, Halifax); died 1 July 1866, age 69 of Bronchitis (Hfx.Co. Death Reg.) married 26 Jan. 1824 William (Bauers) Bowers, s/o Jacob and Barbara Bauers of Harrietsfield.
  • William, bapt.19 July 1800 (St. Paul's). No marriage or death record found. His name appeared in deeds in Goodwood as late as 1847.
  • James. bapt. 7 May 1802 (St. Paul's); died 21 Nov. 1867, age 66, in Goodwood (Hfx.Co. death reg.); married 30 Jan. 1828 Martha Drysdale, d/o James and Isabella (Byrne) Drysdale of "Straw House", bapt. 16 Sept.1808 (St. Mathew's Church, Halifax); d. 16 Feb.1895, in Brookside, Halifax.County (Acadian Recorder).
  • George, born ca. 1803, buried 13 Nov. 1849, age 46 (St. Paul's); married 3 March 1835 (St. Paul's, Halifax) Elizabeth McGrath, daughter of John McGrath and Maryann (Peters) McGrath Umlach, bapt.1823 at age 3 years (St. Peter's RC Church, Hfx.). No record found for any children.
  • John, bapt.19 Feb. 1805 (St. George's, Halifax.) died 10 June 1888, in Goodwood (Presb. Witness); married 14 April 1828 (St. Paul's, Halifax) Caroline Warner of Harrietsfield; born ca.1808, died 2 Feb. 1890, age 82 (Presb.Witness).
  • Alexander, orn. ca. 1807, fl. 1854 in deeds in Herring Cove, Halifax. Co.; no death record found; married 20 Dec.1831 (St.Paul's, Halfiax) Ann Philpot, daughter of James Philpot and Catherine (Latter) (Philpot) Dempsey of Herring Cove, born ca. 1806, died ca. 1860 (Probate records). Their son, George Alexander, moved to Yarmouth where the surname became "Hemlow". In Hamilton, Ontario, members of this family still carry on the Hemlow name. They are sometimes confused with another family living in Hamilton who call themselves "Hemlow" but who descend from Benjamin, a brother of Alexander Umlah.
  • Charles, bapt. 1 May 1808 (St.Paul's, Halifax), fl. 1865 (Deed, Goodwood) died pre 1871 census, married 19 Feb. 1834 Ellen McGrath, daughter of John McGrath and Maryann (Peters) McGrath Umlach, born ca. 1810, died 27 June 1882, age 72, in Halifax; buried Holy Cross Cemetery, Halifax (Acadian Recorder).
  • Edward, born ca. 1810, died pre 1847 (Deed); married 6 May 1839 (St.Paul's, Halifax) Elizabeth Innes, daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth (Dorey) Innes of St. Margaret's Bay. She was born 20 May 1823 (St. Paul's, Halifax). They had one daughter and one son. Her daughter's marriage record indicated Elizabeth's second husband was a Bayers.
  • Benjamin (twin), bapt. 21 Sept. 1812, age 5 months (St.Paul's, Halifax) died 5 June 1898, age 87, at Fose's Hill, near Harrietsfield; buried Greenhead cemetery. (Snow's Funeral Home); married 5 Jan. 1842 (Halifax Journal) Charlotte Jane Yeadon, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Drysdale) Yeadon of Spryfield, Halifax. Co.; born 29 Jan. 1823 (Brunswick St. Methodist Church, Halifax.); died 25 Apr. 1910, age 87, in Halifax (Snow's). Benjamin's grandson, Charles William, changed his name to "Hemlow".
  • Mary Anne (twin), bapt. 21 Sept. 1812, age 5 months (St. Paul's, Halifax) died 1 Sept. 1870, age 58, in Ferguson's Cove (Halifax. Co. Death Register); married 1 Aug. 1830 (St.Paul's, Halifax), William Smith, son of Samuel and Mary (Bowers) Smith of Ferguson's Cove.
  • Sophia, born 20 Sept. 1814 (St.Paul's); died 3 Sept. 1906, age 93, in Harrietsfield; buried Fraser Rd. cemetery, Harrietsfield (Snow's); married 18 May 1840 (St.Paul's, Halifax) Alexander Fraser, son of Hugh and Janet (Drysdale) Fraser; bapt. 11 Dec. 1813 (St. Mathew's, Halifax); died 25 Sept. 1902, age 90 (Snow's).
  • Richard, bapt. 1 Aug. 1817 (St.Mathew's, Halifax). He was Warden of the Penitentiary on Tower Rd., and resided 10 Tower Rd; married 6 March 1844 MaryAnn Weaver, daughter of Michael and Isabella (Drysdale) Weaver, of Brookside, Halifax County. This family moved to Dorchester, N.B. after the closure of the penitentiary on the Northwest Arm in Halifax in 1877-78. Richard appeared in the Dorchester census records in 1881 and 1891 as a prison guard. He died at the home of his daughter, Isabella Troop Messenger in Centreville, Kings County, N.S.
  • Matilda, born 8 Apr. 1819 (St. Paul's, Halifax); no death record found; married 10 June 1858 John F. Cotton in Boston, son of Marcus and Catherine, of Scotland; returned from US and lived in Halifax with her brother Richard in 1876 where her husband was a bookkeeper at the penitentiary on Tower Rd. They had a daughter, Maud, who married a Schurman, in Halifax.
  • Sarah Jane Elizabeth, bapt. 6 May 1822 (St.Paul's); died 15 March 1889, age 67 (St. John's cemetery, Halifax); married (1) 31 Dec. 1838 (St.Paul's) Thomas McGrath, son of John McGrath and Maryann (Peters) (McGrath) Umlach; married (2) 14 July 1845 (St. James, Dartmouth, NS.), George Drysdale, son of William and Elizabeth (Blake) Drysdale of Brookside; born 29 Jan.1827 (St.Andrew's, Halifax); died 19 Jan. 1919, age 89 years (St.John's Cem.).
  • The children of William and Mary Ann (Swartz) Umlach: Louisa, born 25 Apr. 1824, bapt. 11 Aug. 1825 (Brunswick St.), no further record; and Maria, born 28 Mar. 1827, bapt. 9 May 1827, four days after the death of her mother, (St. Paul's, Halifax). No further record. In the 1827 census there were two deaths recorded that year for William's household.
