Eric LaPointe Season

We normally wouldn't think of highlighting one player. We would let the stats do that. But we think the Eric LaPointe story to be completed this weekend at Saint Mary's warrants a separate summary. Bob A.

NOTE: November 2
Eric Lapointe rushed for 240 yards today against Saint Mary's, adding to his season totals. More later.
October 24 from CIAU
CIAU Football Player of the Week honors go to Mount Allison Mounties running back, Eric Lapointe. Lapointe single-handedly led the Mounties to victory over the St. Francis Xavier X-Men last weekend. Eric rushed for 287 yards on 36 carries, and scored four touchdowns. In doing so, he broke not only the AUAA single season rushing record of 1170 yards, but also the CIAU record of 1260 yards.
Eric currently leads the AUAA and the CIAU in rushing with 1375 yards and after this weekends performance, he has taken over the AUAA scoring lead and is tied for third national with 66 total points.
Mount Allison will take on the Saint Mary's Huskies this Saturday in their final regular season game.

Player-of-the-week

September 15th, 1996

Quarterback Mark Stipe of Bishop's Gaiters is this week's CIAU Football Player of the Week.

Stipe, a rookie, put on a remarkable performance in his first ever OQIFC start. He completed 21 of 31 passes for 454 yards and four touchdowns against McGill and didn't have an interception.

Stipe played just 52 minutes of the game before Bishop's coach Ian Breck decided to give his backup a little playing time.

The OQIFC record for most passing yards in a game is 477, set in 1981 by Rick Zmich of the Ottawa Gee-Gees.

Stipe equaled a conference record by throwing those four TD passes. He joins Queen's Tim Pendergast (1989) and Zmich (1982) at the top of that category.
