A huge upset in the OWIAA finals gave Ontario a third team heading into this weekend's CIAU Field Hockey Championship at Lamport Stadium in Toronto November 3-5, 1995.
The Waterloo Athenas won their first ever OWIAA title defeating the undefeated Toronto Blues by shutting them out 2-0. The Athenas are led by second year coach, Sharon Creelman, former national team player, as part of the new wave of field hockey coaches in Canadian universities.
The Toronto Blues have held the OWIAA Championship title 18 times in it's 25 year history, the York Yeowomen have held it the other 6 times.
With the Waterloo win, York has advanced to the CIAU Championship as the host team while Toronto was selected as the first wild card.
The Victoria Vikes were selected as the second wild card team.
The UBC Thunderbirds and UNB Varsity Reds are the other two conference champions rounding out the six team CIAU Championship tournament.

ACCOMPLISHMENT:
Dianne scored a season high five goals to lead the Varsity Reds to a 7-1 win over UPEI on Friday, and assisted on two more goals in a 3-0 win over UPEI on Saturday to keep her team in first place in the AUAA with a 6-0 record. The veteran forward leads the AUAA in scoring with 7 goals.
