So You Want To Work On Computers?
Knowledge may be power, but real-world experience is like owning the generator!
Can you think of a place where you can get your hands dirty with real equipment and real users in an environment where you can learn all the lessons that nobody ever wrote down? We can. And you can do some good at the same time.
Since 1993 the Chebucto Community Net, a volunteer-run not-for-profit society, has been providing affordable dial-up access to the Internet for 6500+ individuals and more than 200 community groups in the Halifax area and beyond. Current facilities include 72 modems, Solaris and Linux systems and a 30 port PortMaster terminal server. The CSuite software created to run CCN is in use by other systems across Canada, the U.S. and overseas.
CCN's Technical Team is recruiting mature volunteers who have an interest in or are experienced with UNIX. The ability to be self-directed and to feel comfortable working in a team environment would help. A good sense of humour is a definite asset.
