Good evening,

My Chebucto account (kgordon@chebucto.ns.ca) has been swamped with spam messages in the last few months. Some days there are dozens of unwanted messages. For example, I’ve had over fifty such messages today so far.

The spam e-mails I am receiving are not caught and sent to the junkmail folder associated with my Chebucto account. Instead they show up in my inbox. My spam filter is on - I checked.

I actually manage my mail on my computer with Apple’s mail program (running OS X 10.9.5), which is usually pretty good at “learning” what constitutes spam, and depositing it into a separate folder. However, I also access mail on my blackberry, which draws directly from my Chebucto account without an ability to filter, so I get all of the spam on my phone as it arrives in my Chebucto inbox.

I know that these days some spam is inevitable - however, the flurry of spam messages I have been receiving to my inbox is concerning. I recently saw a Chebucto account holder tweet about a similar issue. I don’t know if or how his problem was resolved. I am very careful about how I use my Chebucto e-mail address. I rarely use it for any online business. Rather it is for sending and receiving e-mail.

I wanted to send you an e-mail to confirm the spam filter is on for my account, and to ask if you have any suggestions as to software or techniques to assist in filtering mail. I have a second e-mail account - a university account powered by Gmail - no spam problems there. I’m hoping there is a solution to this problem!

Thank you in advance for any assistance you might be able to provide. If it would be easier to have a telephone conversation, please let me know when it would be convenient for me to call the office.

Best,

Kerith Gordon
