Educate for LIVE 8

LIVE 8 and Make Poverty History are about highlighting the inequalities
between rich and poor countries and sending a clear message to the world's
leaders that this must change.

The concerts and the Long Walk to Justice present a unique opportunity for
people to come together in a global call for an end to extreme poverty. The
G8 may have the power to make these decisions but we have the power to make
them use it.

This summer offers schools one of the most exciting opportunities they've
ever had to energise a whole generation and help them realise that their
voices matter and should and can be heard. As a school community, you can
use this opportunity to speak up and tell the G8 leaders that we want them
to make poverty history once and for all.

How schools can take part in LIVE 8 and The Long Walk to Justice:

1.	Run a LIVE8/Make Poverty History assembly to offer students the
chance to explore their role as Global Citizens, make up their minds about
the issues and speak out about them. You can find a ready-made assembly on
makepovertyhistory.org/schools <http://www.makepovertyhistory.org/schools> .

2.	Schools can join London, Philadelphia, Paris, Rome, Berlin,
Johannesburg, Tokyo and Toronto in hosting their very own School LIVE 8
concert for parents and friends.

3.	Arrange a school trip to represent your school and join thousands of
others at the rally in Edinburgh on Saturday 2nd July. For more information
look at makepovertyhistory.org/edinburgh
<http://www.makepovertyhistory.org/edinburgh/> .

4.	If schools can't make it to the rally in Edinburgh in person there
is another way teachers and pupils can show the G8 leaders it is time to
face up to world poverty. Text a photo of your class now to 07774 777 444 or
upload your image online <http://www.live8live.com/live8/imageHome.do> .
Your photo could be part of the huge G8 gallery of supporters displayed
along Princes Street in the heart of Edinburgh.

5.	Get everyone at your school to wear a white band
<http://www.live8live.com/whattodo/index.shtml> on White Band Day, July
1st.

6.	Like people, buildings all over the world will be wearing white
bands to make a statement to the G8. Schools can join St Paul's Cathedral
and the Sydney Harbour Bridge in being wrapped in a white band.

7.	Kids in over 6000 schools in the UK and in over 100 countries around
the world have made over 2 million messages, in the form of child shaped cut
outs called 'buddies', to ask world leaders to make decisions at the G8
Summit to help the 100 million children around the world who are too poor to
go to school. It's not too late to send a message too. Go to
www.sendmyfriend.org <http://www.sendmyfriend.org/> and make a buddy
online.
