*A BIG thank you to those who participated/helped with the very big,
peaceful protest during Bush's visit in Halifax. Over 4000 people on a
weekday morning. The turnout was incredible, but sadly the media didn't
cover it very well, the CBC particularly did a terrible job. The media
also did a poor job covering the 30 protests taking place across the
country on Tuesday, if you are upset, please email: ombudsman@cbc.ca

(3) December 6th and Days of Action against Violence against Women

1:30 to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 5th, 2004: Canadian Crossroads
International & The Transition House Association of Nova Scotia welcome
you to an International Dialogue on Women and Violence at the YWCA of
Halifax, 1239 Barrington Street, Halifax.

7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 6th, 2004:  There will be a
moonlight vigil at King's College, Halifax, in the King's Quad (accessed
from Coburg Road), hosted by the King's Women's Action Committee.
Everyone in the community is welcome to come and contribute respectful
reflections, poems or music.

7:00 p.m., Monday, December 6th, 2004:  A "Vigil of Remembrance and
Hope" will be held in St. Joseph's Church, Port Hawkesbury.  It is a
time for people to remember all the women who had died as a result of
violence against women and an opportunity to nurture our hope that the
violence can end.  The Vigil is sponsored by Leeside Transition House.

6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday, December 6th, 2004:  A Community Peace
Tree Lighting, hosted by Spryfield Community Members & Service Agencies.
At the Captain Williamm Spry Community Centre, 10 Kidston Road,
Spryfield.  Kidston is the 1st right after South Centre Mall when you're
coming out Herring Cove Road from the Rotary.

6:00 p.m., Monday, December 6th, 2004:  Juniper House, Yarmouth, invites
everyone to a vigil to remember the 14 women who were murdered at the
L'école Polytechnique in Montreal, to remember our own women who have
died, to show support for those women who continue to live in abusive
relationships, and to renew our commitment to end violence.

12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 6th, 2004:  The St. Mary's
Women's Centre and Human Resources in holding a memorial service in the
Art Gallery at St. Mary's University, Halifax.  The Art Gallery is
located on the ground floor of the Ignatius Loyola Building.

3:00 p.m., Monday, December 6th, 2004:  The Nova Scotia Advisory Council
on the Status of Women, Amherst, Cumberland County, is hosting a public
event to commemorate the National Day of Remembrance and Action on
Violence Against Women. Individuals and agency representatives will
place purple ribbons on a Christmas tree in remembrance of all women who
have been victims of violence.  At the Amherst Centre Mall.

11:00 a.m., Monday, December 6th, 2004: The Transition House Association
of Nova Scotia, in partnership with the Nova Scotia Advisory Council on
the Status of Women (NSACSW,) will acknowledge the 15th anniversary of
the Montreal Massacre, and THANS 15 years of service, in the North Foyer
of the Provincial Legislature Building, Halifax.  The event will include
remarks from Carolyn Bolivar Getson, Minister for the Status of Women, a
Retrospective of Action to stop violence against women in Nova Scotia
over the last 15 years, a short presentation from Xolile Mazibuko, from
the Swaziland Action Group Against Abuse (SWAGAA) and thank you's from
Doreen Paris, Chair of the Nova Scotia Advisory Council on the Status of
Women. Light refreshments will be provided.

7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 7th, 2004:  There will be a Candlelight
Memorial Service with Rev. Sandra Carruthers at the Stairs Memorial
Church, 44 Hester Street in Dartmouth.  The event will bring people
together in commemoration of the 14 women killed in Montreal on December
6, 1989, and to remember all women who have been victimized by acts of
violence.  Voluntary contributions to the Purple Ribbon Campaign will go
to Bryony House.
