Three people in their seventies – a man and two women – are in critical, but stable condition in hospital, according to a Montreal police spokesman Olivier Lapointe. The Honda CRV rammed through a crowd on the sidewalk outside the Côte-des- Neiges subway station at about 11 a.m. local time. "We were getting ready to cross the street, when this vehicle, like a four-by- four, came by," one man told the radio station CKAC. "I just had time to get out of the way but it hit the people behind, mostly senior citizens. "One flew over the hood, one was thrown into the street, people were flying around like bowling pins." The name of the man who was killed has not been made public. The driver of the vehicle, a 74-year-old man, wasn't seriously hurt. Ambulance attendants said the driver appeared lucid as he got out of his vehicle, complaining only of some back pain. There were two female passengers in the sports utility vehicle with the older man, Lapointe said. Copyright (C) 2004 CBC.
