Tip: Your message to SUST-MAR must be html-free. So, BEFORE you hit SEND, please go to your "Format" pull-down menu and select "Plain text." Thanks! ____________________________________________________________________________ It is by name, not by definition, that the "annual seal slaughter" is assumed to be sustainable, which it is not. It is a pointless, superficial, frivolous, barbaric practice which actually has nothing to do with fish, and everything to do with the lucrative fur trades of Europe and other developed nations. The fact is that the lack of cod is due to massive, widespread over fishing over extended periods of time, and that cod makes up less than 1% of seals' diets. The seals which are actually killed (brutally, and in most cases, are not even killed and are skinned alive and fully conscious) are not even old enough to eat fish yet, and can only drink their mothers' milk, though they are hardly given any time to do even this. An actually sustainable possible solution is to encourage the growth of fish populations. It is despicable that the government condones such a brutal practice, refusing to face the truth: that it was their own recklessness which led to the fish extinctions in teh first place. If you are pro fish, you should encourage the growth of undisturbed fish populations, not the pointless, selfish, cruel seal slaughter. Sustainability must work with natural systems, not artificial, human-induced extinctions and salughter.____________________________________________________________________________ Did a friend forward this to you?
