Thanks! ____________________________________________________________________________ Green Party of Canada Prince Edward Island Friday June 11, 2004 PEI Green Party Candidates Win Gold - Sierra Club of Canada Awards Gold Eco-Olympic Medals to Green Party and Two PEI Candidates (Charlottetown)The Sierra Club of Canada released its assessment of all the candidates across Canada, recognizing those who have clear environmental concerns with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. Two Green Party candidates from Prince Edward Island were awarded Gold Medals. Malpeque candidate Sharon Labchuk, and Egmont candidate Irene Novaczek were both recognized for their longstanding commitment to the environment. A Sierra Club media release says, “Sharon Labchuk has a decades-long track record as a persistent and passionate critic of the abuse of pesticides on Prince Edward Island. Her entrance into the federal Games is a credit to the Green Party. Dr. Novaczek has a national reputation for solid science and environmental commitment. Her work is always solid gold.” The Green Party won the Gold Medal in the Team division beating out all other parties. “The Greens’ platform is solidly oriented to environmental protection and rehabilitation. Team Coach Jim Harris is making an impressive debut in the federal games,” says the Sierra Club.
