You can help us out and increase your knowledge of sustainable lawn care practices at the same time by purchasing the following excellent book: "How to get your lawn and garden off drugs: pesticide-free gardening for a healthier environment" by B.C. author Carole Rubin is a concise, clearly-written gem that gives you all the information you need to keep your lawn and garden healthy without pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. It includes sections on preventing and coping with chinch bug, white grub and other common insect invasions, as well as measures for preventing and dealing with bacterial and fungal diseases. For those who already take care of their properties organically, this is a great reference book to have on hand. It also makes a wonderful gift for those who need encouragement to make the change to healthier practices -- consider buying a copy for your pesticide-using neighbours, relatives or friends. To receive your copy, please send a cheque for $12.50 to: SSPRAG R.R.#1 LaHave, N.S. B0R 1C0 Expect delivery within 2-3 weeks. The South Shore Pesticide Reduction Action Group (SSPRAG) is a registered not-for-profit society, formed in February 2000 to raise awareness of the dangers of pesticides used for cosmetic purposes. We believe that everyone has the right to live, work and travel in communities free from harmful chemical pesticides. To that end, we encourage individuals, organizations, businesses, governments and others in the counties of Lunenburg and Queens to eliminate pesticides from their properties and communities, and adopt more healthful practices of lawn, garden and property care. SSPRAG's mandate is supported by the Nova Scotia College of Family Physicians, the Medical Society of Nova Scotia, the Chief Medical Officers for the Western and Central Regional Health Boards, and the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment. We welcome members from across Nova Scotia. Membership is $10 per year per family. This fee goes directly to covering our administrative and materials costs, photocopying, postage and other expenses; all our work is done by volunteers. For more information about SSPRAG, or to join, please contact us at the numbers below. ______________________________________________ Susan Bone South Shore Pesticide Reduction Action Group (SSPRAG) R.R.#1, LaHave, N.S.
