Thanks! ____________________________________________________________________________ Hello, Good news! - Council voted 19-4 in favour of putting in place HRM's growth strategy that limits new roads and housing subdivisions in "unserviced areas" on the fringes of metro Halifax. Thank you everyone for helping to influence this decision. BUT NOW, there's pressure to relax those controls for just 3 districts in HRM - Eastern Shore, Fall River-Waverley, Preston-Porter's Lake. Councillors need to know that the Regional Plan is about the HRM as a UNIFIED REGION. Regional planning is about guiding the growth of Halifax across the WHOLE region. Favouring some districts over others will lead to exactly the kind of disjointed and unbalanced growth the Regional Plan is supposed to address. It simply does not make sense to relax development controls in just these 3 districts. For instance, relaxing controls on the Eastern Shore is to invite a string of commuter subdivisions in that area. This will cause increased pressure to twin Highway 107 - at everyone's expense. There are also emergency access, safety, health, and liability issues that arise for HRM (and all ratepayers) that result from uncoordinated growth of residential subdivisions. **** YOUR ACTION URGENTLY NEEDED ********** I know you've heard it before - but your individual voices make a huge difference (and already have in the progress so far). But still, it is critical in the next 24 HOURS for you to PLEASE call your Councillor and let them know that the Regional Planning controls must be applied to the entire region of Halifax. Find your Councillor's phone number here: Please look down this list for your local Councillor - and give them one quick phone call (and leave a voicemail if they're not there).....
