Good morning, everyone!

The Bay of Islands Sustainable Economic Development Centre Association
invites your participation in this year's Stone Soup Festival held in Moser
River from August 2-4.

If you or your organization has a message to get out, funds to raise, art,
crafts or products to sell, etc. this is a great opportunity to set up a
display table/booth for this 2nd year event as we expect a good crowd.
Renewable energy, green building, sustainable forestry, wildcrafting,
organics, etc, etc...

Loads of camping is available on our 50 acre century farm site and roofed
accommodation is not far. We also arrange for billeted rooms in the
community at $25 pp/$30 with breakfast.

What's a Stone Soup? - "An outdoor country festival of music, storytelling,
drummers, buskers, live folk theatre, artsy stuff, good food, fun and a
sustainable living information exchange". Based on the French fable where
everyone brought a little something to share so the whole village had a
great feast. At the Bay of Islands project, the 'stone soup' story
represents the inherent values of sustainable living.

We also welcome volunteers anytime at the Bay of Islands project on Nova
Scotia's Eastern Shore (Moser River is located at the head of Necum Teuch
Harbour approximately 1/2 way between Halifax and Antigonish). Accommodation
is usually available unless we are hosting an event or the facility is
pre-booked for a workshop or gathering of some kind.

We are getting ready for the Festival now and especially welcome anyone with
skills in event organizing, stage production, building (including hiking
trails!).

Like most of these venues, volunteering represents hard work and no pay but
you'll have a great experience and feel so good about taking part! Since
last year, we have received volunteers from Germany, France, Hungary,
Ukraine, the US and from all across Canada.

Some are here for a few days as they trek along with a backpack; others have
stayed for a 3 month English immersion or internship. We would like to
network with other sustainable organizations to the east and west of Bay of
Islands so we can refer trekkers to other 'stops along the way'.

New web information will be uploaded soon. In the meantime, here's the
Festival info: http://bay-of-islands.org/festival/

The Bay of Islands Centre is a non-profit organization registered in Nova
Scotia. Cash donations are warmly received and of course, we have a wish
list of tools and equipment. Mowing equipment (or a sheep) for the field
camping areas are high on our priority list this week.

Warmest regards to all Sustainable Maritimers. Keep on with your great work
out there!
