Energy Committee of the Ecology Action Centre (EAC) seeks Energy Coordinator! Duties: To undertake climate change policy analysis and development as well as public education in Nova Scotia. The successful applicant(s) will analyze and critique the implications of new policies or budgets and disseminate the information to the media and decision makers. The Coordinator will also develop, probably with the Climate Change Caucus, a strategy or plan as to how Nova Scotia could meet and exceed its Kyoto Protocol commitments. The Coordinator will transfer and exchange information on best practices by developing co-operative working relationships with non-governmental organizations, academic, recreational, health, industry and climate change professionals, government and citizens. Other tasks will include following the progress of Nova Scotia Power in meeting its Kyoto commitments as well as working with other agencies to ensure that public funds for construction/renovation projects incorporate energy-efficient components. In terms of public education, the Coordinator will promote climate change success stories, challenge the public to reduce emissions, work with EAC's theatre troupe Hemlock Circus and investigate the demand and the feasibility of conducting provincial workshops on emissions reduction. Other duties related to climate change and energy, as well as fundraising and report writing and some general EAC work will be required. Qualifications: Good understanding of climate change and of relevant policies including but not limited to the Kyoto Protocol and the Regional Agreement on Climate Change Passion for addressing the issue of climate change Experience analyzing and critiquing environmental or energy policies Experience coordinating a public education campaign Strong writing, presentation and communication skills and ability to follow workplan Project management and fundraising experience preferred Ability to work effectively with wide range of individuals and groups Confidence and experience working with the media Competence in Microsoft Word, internet and e-mail Ability to track expenses according to a budget and to review monthly accounts Good understanding of science, functioning of government and human behaviour. Experience working or volunteering for non-profit groups an asset This position is available part-time for 1 year, with a three-month probationary period. Alternately the possibility of working full time for a half year will also be considered (please indicate your preference in your application letter). Starting date of May 1 at the latest. This position has the potential to become full-time if the funds can be found.
