Please Post far and wide! The Ecology Action Centre is seeking an Outreach Coordinator. The position will include coordinating volunteers, managing a newsletter, producing outreach materials, increasing membership, participating in public events, and responding to information requests. Skills Desired: Marketing / Promotions, Commerce or Public relations background Excellent Communication skills (listening, oral, written, internet) Planning / Organizational skills (manage priorities, complete assignments, work independently with minimum of supervision) Personal skills (team orientated, energetic, motivated, outgoing, friendly, conscientious) Computer skills (Microsoft Office – Access, Excel, Word, Internet, email) Environmentally concerned with a knowledge of environmental issues. Description of Position: A big part of this position will involve recruiting new members. This requires a person who is not shy about approaching people / strangers to become members, which will include phoning individuals, attending events and possibly door-to-door canvassing. The position also includes working with the membership committee, maintaining the database and supervising summer students and volunteers. Volunteer coordination will also be the responsibility of the outreach coordinator. This will include welcoming volunteers and making sure they find a place in the organization and their contributions are recognized, and organizing introductory meetings for new volunteers and follow-up meetings. This position will involve assisting in the managerial aspects of production and distribution of Between the Issues, EAC's quarterly magazine. Tasks include, but are not limited to coordinating the production schedule, liaising with the editor, designer, contributors, etc., finding a new advertising manager for the magazine, or, failing that, soliciting advertisements, coordinating distribution of free copies around metro and the province. This job has the potential to become full-time and long-term if funding opportunities arise. This is an excellent opportunity to work for a good cause in a marketing/organizational capacity. At present the position is funded for 6 months, but an extension is possible (and desirable). Eligibility: Funding for this position is provided by the Job Creation Partnership Program. Applicants must meet local HRC office criteria. Must be unemployed and in receipt of EI, or have received Benefits within the last three years, or five years for Maternity or Parental Benefits and reentering the work force. Salary: The annual salary for this position is 21,500. If this position becomes permanent there is the potential for increase in salary over the long-term.
