Climate Change Workshop for NGOs Clean Nova Scotia's Climate Change Centre is sponsoring a Climate Change Workshop for employees and volunteers with Environmental Non-Government Organizations and others concerned about climate change. Where: Best Western Glengarry in Truro When: Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Why: Because climate change could well be the most significant environmental issue of the 21st Century. This will be an exciting event where you'll have a chance to learn from presenters and each other. The workshop is free. Agenda 8:30 to 9 a.m. Sign in 9 a.m. Welcoming remarks-Brenda MacDonald, Chair of Clean Nova Scotia's board of directors, and Mark Dittrick of the Sierra Club of Canada Introductions from everyone-Brief blurb on who you are and what climate change projects you are working on, if any 9:30 a.m. Overview of Climate Change Science-Gary Lines, a meteorologist with Environment Canada's Climate Change Division in Dartmouth 10 a.m. What's Happening? Climate Change Projects across the Country-Maria Cain, Coordinator of the Climate Change Centre 10:30 a.m. Coffee, tea and networking 10:45 a.m. Strategic Partnering-Alex Fischer of the Ecology Action Centre and Mark Dittrick of the Sierra Club provide insights on partnering 11:15 a.m. Learning from Each Other-Small group discussions 11:45 a.m. Reporting Back to main group Noon Lunch 1:15 p.m. Where's the Money and How to Get It - Heather McLean, program officer for the Eco-Action Community Funding Program, on available funding sources and how to write your proposal 2:00 p.m. Media Panel Discussion and Questions-Panelists will include Bruce Wark, a professor at the University of King's College School of Journalism, Trudie Richards, an assistant professor of public relations at Mount Saint Vincent University, and David Swick, a columnist for the Halifax Daily News 3 p.m. Break 3:15 p.m. Applying What You've Learned-Small group discussions. Think creatively. Is there work on climate change that can be done within your own group or in partnership with other organizations? What do you need to be able to go forward on climate change work? 3:45 p.m. Reporting back to main group 4:00 p.m. Wrap-up The deadline for registrations is Friday, December 6. Registration form is at the end of this material. Register as soon as possible since space is limited. Hope to see you at the workshop. If you have information about your group or organization and want to share it, bring it along. There will be a table available to display brochures, reports, presentations or other information. Directions: Take Highway 102 to Exit 13 in Truro. If you're coming from Halifax or other communities south of Truro, turn right at the exit and keep driving until you come to a "T" in the road and a set of lights (there's a gas station on one side and a Tim Horton's on the other). Turn left and keep driving until you see another set of lights. The Best Western Glengarry, 150 Willow Street, will be on your left. If you're arriving from Cape Breton or other communities north of Truro, still take Exit 13 off Highway 102, but turn left. The rest of the directions are the same.
