MARITIME PAPER FINED FOR ROLE IN WORKER DEATH
A paper plant in Dartmouth has been fined $50,000 for its role
in the death of a worker last year. Maritime Paper Products has entered
a guilty plea to a charge under the province's occupational health and
safety act, in the death of Fred MacPhee.

UNION EXECS TO CONSIDER CONTRACT CONCESSIONS
The largest union at Stora Enso in Port Hawkesbury will meet Friday to
talk about the pending closure of one of the company's paper mills.  The
company has given the union an ultimatum.  Either it makes contract
concessions, or 800 people will be out of work.

MILK TOPS NOT RECYCLABLE, SAYS CONSULTANT
An environmental consultant in Halifax says the new plastic lids and
spouts on milk cartons are not recyclable. The milk industry has been
running advertisements in the papers, stating they are 100 per cent
recyclable.
