Dear Friends:

I am writing you to let you know about The Umoja Project. Next week on
Thursday June 6 and Friday June 7, children, youth, parents and grandparents
of the Inner City Community will present a play filled with drama, music,
song, dance and art. It will tell us about the past, present and probable
future of this important part of our Halifax City. The main goal of this
project is to build bridges within the community and just as importantly to
connect positively with other communities of Halifax.

This original work begins with the rich history of Halifax's Inner City
Community. It is a story of faith, courage, strength and unity as people
from all over the world came and built thriving communities across Nova
Scotia. It is also a story of a struggle with the oppression of racism and
power as promises were broken again and again. It is finally the story of
how many of these people, in many ways and for many reasons, came to build
the unique and diverse community of our Inner City.

The first performance will take place Thursday June 6 at Saint Patrick's-
Alexandra School on Maitland St. in the Gymnasium at 7pm.
Admission is free.
Please enter through the parking lot off Brunswick Street.

The second performance will take place on Friday June 7th at the DanceSpace at
1531 Grafton St. (across the street from the Main Public Library) at 7pm.
Admission is Pay What You Can.

All proceeds will go towards arts programs at Saint Patrick's- Alexandra
school.

The performances were made possible by a generous grant from
The 4C's Foundation.

Umoja is the first of the seven principles of Kwanzaa meaning Unity.
Please come to support a community's loving effort to encourage unity.
