TACKLING CLIMATE CHANGE FROM THE GRASSROOTS: THE LOCAL RESPONSES TO A LOOMING CRISIS Jack Layton, Toronto municipal councilor, and current president of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities will be in Halifax on May 16, 2002 to deliver a presentation called Tackling Climate Change From The Grassroots: The Local Responses To A Looming Crisis. As President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Mr. Layton has provided leadership in the development of climate change response initiatives in Canadian municipalities. His visit to Halifax is part of a nation-wide effort to raise awareness that municipalities can play a central role in responding to the threat of climate change. His presentation will be of interest to the media, municipal councilors and staff, environmentalists as well as the general public.
