Creating Alternatives, Building Resistance

Atlantic Canada Gathering for Concerned Communities
March 22nd - March 24th
Sackville, NB

There are people all over the world working for a better community and a 
better life. Not just for themselves but for all. March 22nd to March 24th 
will be a great chance for anyone who is\or wants to work for change in 
Atlantic Canada to come together talk about experiences, get educated on 
important issues, and plan out effective campaigns for change.

Get Educated!!
Learn about the issues that concern so many of the people of the Atlantic 
from the people who are currently working on them!

Topics will include:
- Local Issues that surround our communities such as: the Sydney tar ponds, 
Native Rights,water privatization, Pesticides, and Forestry practices.
- Issues that are of Concern of communities around the world: 
Globalization/Global institutions (IMF/World Bank), Racism, Food, Sexism, 
and a talk from a Zimbabwean student about the oppression and democracy in 
Africa.
- Skill Building: Making your own media, Group decision making, Influencing 
government policy, and Grassroots organizing.
- We will also focus on our culture by listening to many maritime poets and 
storytellers.
- French/English Translation Available at workshops if needed.

	A Huge part of this conference is to bring people together from all 
Atlantic provinces to meet, make ties with people in other provinces, and 
create alternatives by building on a Atlantic wide coalition for positive 
change!!
	We will discuss how to build the coalition, what campaigns we want to work 
on, how to build awareness in your own community, and how to create 
alternatives.

Accommodations in Sackville will be billeted.  ***You will need a sleeping 
bag and matt also bring your own cup, bowl and spoons/forks/knives for 
food. also bring a contribution for the sat potluck! ***

or female billet, allergic to pets or smoke, no stairs, etc.)

TRAVEL:
Participant will be providing for their own travel cost for the most part.

CONFERENCE FEES:
There is a 20$ registration fee that will go into food and preparation for 
the conference as well as to help with travel but no one will be turned 
away for lack of funds.
Fees may be paid by in cash or check(made out to the blue green society) 
upon arrival in Sackville or with registration form when you send it.

Pre-registration is needed for the workshop on influencing government 
policy and the zine making workshop. Please check the box if you are 
interested. Please X titles your interested in to give us an idea of how 
many people will be attending certain workshops.(don't worry your not 
committing yourself its just for us to have and idea so we can get a large 
enough space for the workshop)

RESIDENTS UPSET WITH MOVE OF SEWAGE PLANT
Residents in central Halifax say they were never consulted about a move to
put a sewage treatment plant on municipally-owned land.  Last summer the
Central Halifax Community Association was told the most likely site would
