Index of Subjects Sust-Mar: I've been slowly evolving my 14 acre island conservation & renewable energy demonstration "retreat" into Saltmarsh Island Institute for conservation & renewable energy. Our little house is one of 12 off-grid homes in Canada reported on CMHC's website, and it is the second best overall performer, with an airchange rate around 3 per hour and a 73% reduction in electrical energy. Solar & wind powered - all for under $50,000. So tell me again the technology isn't 'ready'. The island was home to the first small scale vertical axis tidal power generator in the 1980's, and also the training ground for Nova Scotia's windsurfer at the Canada games, my eldest son, Daniel. My four submissions on the NS government energy strategy website speak to more than 25 years experience in this field. The last time David Suzuki (one of my personal heroes) was on CBCs cross country check-up, he could not answer a single question about community or residence-based environmentally appropriate action. I could answer every one. So who would like to be involved with building a stone & round log gathering place, powered by alternative energy, for a reasonable workshop fee which includes provided labour? This work is called digging, dragging and lifting rocks and trees. There will also be time for discussion and quite contemplation of selective cutting of an unlogged coastal Acadian forest.
