Thatch and Cob Workshop Naturally Beautiful Buildings September 29 -30 Ship Harbour, Eastern Shore, N.S. Thatching with local phragmite reed is resurging as a viable roofing solution in Nova Scotia. Jef Achenback and Perry Everett, Annapolis Thatching Co-op Inc., will look at benefits, tools and skills needed for this ancient trade. Participants will have hands-on thatching experience of a bale and cob shed. Cob buildings constructed in northern Europe 500 years ago are still lived in comfortably today. The cob mix for this workshop with builder Kim Thompson, is a combination of clay, sand and straw, which, when dry, makes a durable, non toxic building material. Natural clay plasters and paints will also be demonstrated. Lots of hands and feet on. Cost: $100 Includes both workshops, music making, and meals (one community pot luck). Accommodation and camping available on site at the Straw House. Sliding scale option for unwaged.
