When: Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001 - - 7:00 pm Where: 1322 Robie St. (SRES) corner of University and Robie Who: Anyone interested in being involved with and contributing to the local planning, fundraising and promotion of the 3rd Annual National Sustainable Campuses Conference. Organic snacks Provided! The Sierra Youth Coalition Sustainable Campuses Conference will be held in Halifax this year. Speakers such as Elizabeth May, Executive Director of Sierra Club of Canada and Ron Colman from GPI Atlantic, along with innovative student groups and other speakers will be coming together to find creative solutions to campus environmental and social justice issues. The main theme of the conference seeks to give students the skills and practical experiences to organize their SYC group to conduct solid environmental audits of their campuses and work with institutional administrations to create and implement environmental and social policy. The Local Planning Committee’s role is to facilitate local coordination of the speakers and participants. One of our major responsibilities is to coordinate billeting for speakers and syc student participants, organize food preparation, local fundraising / promotion and transportation. The Local Planning Committee’s roles are to Co-ordinate Billeting - There is a Billeting Coordinator needed to help match Billetees to their hosts. Great way to meet the speakers and participants. - There is a Billet Form below if you are interested in participating as a billet for student or speakers. One night or the whole weekend…. Organizing Food Preparation - A Food Preparation Team will be formed to collect food donations and prepare food for all participants. There are already many interested and this will be a great experience in cooking economical, locally grown, organic produce for large numbers. Fundraising / Promotion - Fundraising for in kind donations of funds, materials and/or services from local business and organizations - Article writing for some local/regional publications to promote the conference Transportation - We need people with vehicles to help with transportation needs. If you’d like to be involved with the SYC Conference Planning Committee or have some great ideas on how you can contribute to this exciting event or would like to register - Call Jason Kun @ 422-5091 (office) or 492-1412 (work).
