Sierra Youth Coalition Sustainable Campuses Conference October 11-14, 2001 Halifax, Nova Scotia Interested in campus environmental issues? Committed to sustainable development in Canada? Want to take grassroots action and be part of a national network of active and informed students? Do disposable cups drive you crazy? >From October 11-14th, 2001, the Sierra Youth Coalition will be holding its 3rd annual Sustainable Campus Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia, hosted by Dalhousie University and the University of Kings College. Join student environmental leaders from across the country in the campaign to transform Canada'a universities and colleges into models of sustainability! The Sustainable Campuses Conference will include speakers and a workshop program covering a variety of topics including auditing, sustainability indicators, waste-management, partnerships, eco-villages, corporate influence on Canadian campuses, and community based social marketing. Speakers include Elizabeth May, Executive Director of the Sierra Club of Canada; Dr. Ron Coleman, Executive Director of Genuine Progress Index Atlantic; Daniel Greenburg, Executive Director of the Living Routes Eco-village Program; and Jay Kassirer of Tools for Change. Through networking and strategizing sessions, participants will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of a comprehensive national action plan on sustainability for university and college campuses. Independent participants and members of campus environmental groups are welcome to attend and share experiences and plans. Representatives of student unions interested in greening their mandates, and staff members of Canadian campuses will also be warmly welcomed! Participants from past conferences have created highly successful campus audit and sustainability programs, and will offer workshops for students who do not have extensive background experience in such initiatives. Through open dialogue and the collective experience of participants, we will make way for concrete change on our campuses. Every effort will be made to offer bilingual services at the conference. Transportation and participation funds may be available for students from outside of Halifax. Accommodations and meals will be provided. Please fill out the registration form and return it by September 15, 2001 to the Sierra Youth Coalition, 412-1 Nicholas Street, Ottawa, Ontario K1N 7B7, or email it to sierrayc@web.ca.
