Hi all. Transport 2000 Atlantic is issuing a plea that anyone/group
interested in sustainable transportation initiatives and protecting the
environment from hundreds of more trucks on the road, please
e-mail/write/phone Cape Breton MLAs, MPs, Sydney councilors, and ministers
of Cabinet and let them know you want the rail link to Sydney to be
preserved from being torn up. With the demise of Devco and Sysco, the CBNS
railway is formally applying to abandon this section of line which means
that the Sydney regional municipality with a population of over 125,000
people will have no access to rail to ship their goods. This will have a
devastating effect on an area already hit hard with unemployment as future
industries will not locate there and any goods shipped will move through use
of highways. The area is already suffering from pollution effects from the
industrial era and does not need to add hundreds of trucks to the roads.
FYI-Ron Russell is the Minister of Transportation. The nurses recently
showed that the government will act under political pressure.
Thanks, for more information call John Pearce at Transport 2000 Atlantic
