My friends and colleagues at HeartWood are looking for applicants with pertinent experience and passion in community youth development, social research, and/or digital video skills. HeartWood Life Learning with Youth Job Posting ~ Youth Research Team HeartWood is a non-government, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to link youth leadership and community development in preparing young people for healthy futures. Based in Lunenburg County, we provide programs and services to children and youth throughout Nova Scotia, including environmental education and adventure-based learning experiences. As well, we are active all year round working with youth in communities to increase their leadership skills and their involvement as responsible community members. We wish to hire 4 young people (between the ages of 18 and 30) to conduct research on community youth development principles and practices, as they relate to youth gathering places. Responsibilities will include: · Participating in training to develop skills in community-based research techniques and the use of digital video cameras and software programs for video editing. · As part of a team, interviewing other youth and community mentors, as well as conducting research through the Internet. · Working collaboratively with resource persons in the community. · Working with HeartWood’s core staff to develop training and informational videos. · Helping to organize and prepare a symposium/forum that will share knowledge of community youth development principles/practices, as they relate to youth gathering places. Qualified candidates will have a working knowledge of computers and information technology (preferably Macs). As well, they will have experience in community, youth, or leadership development and be able to work collaboratively with diverse people and groups in the community. They should also have some access to a car. Wage: $320 per week, 40 hours a week, including work on weekends. Contract time frame: 2 positions begin in July 2001 and finish in April 2002 (note: these positions may be extended). 2 positions begin in July 2001 and finish December 2001.
