Private motor vehicles (i.e. cars) are probably the single greatest individual threat to our environment and our collective future. You can help by using public transit, walking and cycling. Here are excerpts from Metro Transit's "GO TIMES" (Summer 2001): -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- CLEAN AIR DAY: Take Back the Air! Celebrating its third year, Clean Air Day Canada (CADC) takes place on June 6th this year. The theme is "Youth and Sustainable Transportation." Although it is only one day, it is designed to encourage motorists of all ages to commute by public transit on this day, and every day. CADC also aims to raise awareness of the important role public transit has in preserving healthy communities. Metro Transit would like to recognize its passengers for making the wise transportation choice and contributing to the preservation of the environment. Encourage your friends and family to participate in CADC and TAKE BACK THE AIR! This message will be displayed on busboards and shelter posters across the country ... watch for them around Metro! [. . .] Also in the Summer 2001 edition of GO TIMES: BIKES at the MUSEUM: The Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History presents: June 30 - October 21: The wheel Story - a fascinating look at the history of cycling with more than 20 interactive stations, 30 bikes and accessories. For more details, call the museum at 424-7353 and call MetroInfo at 490-6600 for bus routes and schedules to get you there. *** [Paul's note: I'd rather see CARS relegated to the museum!] [. . .] COMMUNITY TRANSIT ... now accepts bus tickets on the Beaver Bank and Porter's Lake/Preston service. Cash fare unchanged. For details call 490-6600 or visit the Metro Transit website. http://www.region.halifax.ns.ca ~paul :) _________________________________________________________________________ Paul A. Authority should be earned, not appointed. The "experts" are often proven wrong (they used to believe that the earth was flat!). You don't have to be an expert to have a valuable opinion or to speak out on an issue. -"10 Commandments for Changing the World" Angela Bischoff & Tooker Gomberg in Alternatives magazine, http://www.fes.uwaterloo.ca/alternatives -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- The preceding message was posted on Sustainable Maritimes (sust-mar) -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- Overloaded with email?
