We interrupt your day to bring you a sust-mar NEWSFLASH: Many of you know "Mike Bike" (aka Michael Wilson, Mike the Bike, Micycle Bicycle, etc.). Mike is -- as his monikers suggest -- a proponent of sustainable transportation. He's been a local activist for several years, working to promote bicycling. Mike operated one of Halifax's first bicycle courier services, and a bike repair shop on Gottingen St. He was always trying to raise awareness ... my first trial in a Nova Scotia court was defending Mike from charges of riding a bicycle on the bridge (pre-bike lane). Many of us are driving bikes made by Mike from recycled/reused materials. Many local kids are riding bicycles donated by Mike. He ran a bike repair workshop at the Atlantic Earth Festival a few years back. The list goes on ... Sust-mar has learned that Mike is leaving town TODAY, 14 Feb. He's taking the train at ~1:00pm today from Halifax. If you'd like to say good-bye to Mike, he'll be at the train station. If you'd like to stay in touch with Mike, RSVP ... i'll connect you with his new coordinates as soon as they are available.
