Irondale announces an elementary school tour of a new play:
The Never Ending Task - the work of Peace

Over the last five years Irondale has created and toured three different
plays for elementary school audiences. They've been seen by thousands of
children across the province, and have all toured under the title Gentle
Ways Are Best. The tours have met with great success receiving acclaim
from teachers and students alike. This new play is the latest in
Irondale's repertoire for children and is designed to deliver positive
messages to young people. These messages offer alternatives to violence
and encourage co-operation, creative problem solving and peaceful living.

The Never Ending Task is a collection of world tales that ponder the
reality of peace. Together they form a mosaic of stories, songs, dances
and colourful characters who proclaim peace as the greatest problem solver
in the world. They also show that peace is the result of hard work that we
each must do our share of. Others cannot do our labour. These stories say
that peace cannot be enforced from without; it cannot be won through the
waging of war; and it is not arrived at by accident or magic. The Never
Ending Task presents peace as a quality that lives in each and every one
of us. It could be the guiding force behind every choice we make.

Unfortunately it isn't.

Peace is often the result of a long and difficult journey, first inward
and then outward into the conflict of human interaction. When this journey
proves to be too much for us, we give up on peace and succumb to the more
base quality of war. The Never Ending Task tells stories that reward
collaboration while encouraging the expansion of choices that nurture
peaceful living. It affirms that the daughter of peace is joy, and that
peace does not arrive empty handed.

The plot that connects the various stories within the play is that of a
group of friends who are suddenly confronted with the anger and
intimidation of a neighbourhood bully. As they struggle to come to terms
with these negative feelings, they find that the peace that connects them
as friends is a strength far greater than the war the bully wants to wage.
They discover that bullying hurts not only those being picked on, but the
bully as well. Within the play is an analysis of the characteristics of
bullies and how violence and bullying are interrelated.

The Never Ending Task - the work of peace has been developed for a
primary to 6 audience.
