1. From: "david and miyuki" <dmmaboehm@auracom.com> Re: Green Party 2. From: Brian Bradley Re: election issue: pressure-treated wood -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- Paul's note: So, far, the only federal election messages I have received re the environment are from the Green Party. Does any other Party/candidate have an environmental policy? I sure hope so! Tell sust-mar ... -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: "david and miyuki" <dmmaboehm@auracom.com> Subject: Green Epiphany (in plain text {I hope}) I was cursing Ralph Nader and the Green Party this morning for throwing the US election (probably) to the Republicans. Al Gore is the first presendential candidate who has been a conscious and avowed environmentalist and I thought it was ironic that he should be tripped up by Greens... Alas, I found myself perusing the Green Party of Canada's website this afternoon and was suddenly struck with a revelation: I believe in these things! No other party is saying these things! This is not a party trying to revive a bygone nationalism, or content to serve a cozy constituency, it has real vision with international connections and appeal. The only unifying ideology that will bring the world together to sort out the problems that face us is the ideology of environmentalism: "There is only one value: the life and health of the world." [Wendell Berry]. The Green Party stands alone in having a vital philosophical core from which it develops policy. The NDP once upon a time had a home in socialist thought, but has lately been adrift. The Green Party did not steal the election from the American Democrats. If Al Gore had wanted to, he could have challenged Ralph Nader to run as the Green Party's presidential candidate. The American writer, Bill McKibbon quoted Al Gore in one of his books as saying something like: there is such a huge gulf between what needs to be done (to address environmental crises) and what is political possible that its hard not to despair... [I'm quoting from memory]. But on the other hand if leaders are content to keep defining the possible in the old boundaries then the electorate will also feel comfortable remaining there while we slide toward ruin. The painful break has to come sometime and it came 2000 in Florida with a vote spread of 2000 or so votes. The Democratic party will not win an election again until it goes Green. I don't have a Green Party candidate in my riding so I'll probably vote for the NDP. If there was a Green candidate, I would no longer hesitate to 'waste' my vote on the future of politics. David Boehm Truro, NS ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: "Brian C. Bradley" <ax876@chebucto.ns.ca> Subject: Political Daaaaa Of all of the candidates currently running in the Sackville - Musquodoboit Valley - Eastern Shore riding, NONE have shown any honest response to the question concerning what they would do to stop the production, importation, sale and use of lethal "pressure-treated" wood. This is a clear lack of honest response to problems which threaten our environment and our health. Given that the previous MP did nothing to effectively have this issue brought before the house, what choice do we have in this next election? NONE?
