URGENT: THE (REAL) PUBLIC HEARINGS ON THE PESTICIDE BYLAW CONTINUE ON TUESDAY, JUNE 13 AT 6:00 PM, AT HALIFAX CITY HALL (GRAND PARADE). BUT PLEASE COME VERY EARLY! Fill the Council Chambers upstairs with supporters. TO GET A COMMUNITY FRIENDLY PESTICIDE BYLAW, YOUR HELP IS CRUCIAL. WITHOUT ANOTHER GREAT SHOWING OF PUBLIC SUPPORT LIKE THAT ON MAY 23RD, WE COULD EASILY LOSE THE PESTICIDE BYLAW – Speakers are allowed 3-5 minutes to talk [no pre-registration this time]. Just stating that you support the bylaw would be enough. Even if you do not wish to speak, your presence is needed. Try to bring a written summary of your report to submit. Even if the hearings are closed off, your ideas will then still be part of the record. You can VIEW a copy of the bylaw at: http://www.region.halifax.ns.ca/harboursol/pesticides/pesticides.html The bylaw being considered is a phase-out of toxic landscape pesticides by the year 2004. It is based on the recommendations of the Majority Report of the Pesticide Bylaw Advisory Committee. The bylaw will permit and encourage the use of safe, non-toxic landscape products. Indoor pesticides, personal, and building structure uses, commercial properties, rodent control, etc., and permits for exceptional infestations are all allowed by the bylaw. They have just started to fight and they are well funded and expert at manipulating the media. PLEASE COME AND SUPPORT THE PESTICIDE BYLAW.
