Job Posting: Two  Researcher/Writers

THE NOVA SCOTIA PUBLIC INTEREST RESEARCH GROUP [nspirg] is a student funded
and directed non-profit, non-partisan, and non-governmental organization
that focuses on environmental and social justice issues. Our working groups
are:  Eco-Action, Economic Justice, Humans Against Homophobia (HAH!),
Animal Liberation Collective, Womyn's Health Collective, Peace Action Group
and Cinema PIRGatory. We also have a volunteer run  food cooperative and an
organic community garden.

We are now hiring for two researcher/writers for the summer.

Researcher/Writer [position 1]

Summary of position

Update, re-write and layout the Single Mother's Survival Guide - an NSPIRG
publication written for single mothers facing economic and political
obstacles in Nova Scotia.  The researcher would be responsible for
researching information for all the existing chapters of the guide as well
as creating new chapters, updating the guide and putting together a revised
publication  to be printed in  the fall  of  2000.
There will also be some regular office hours/duties expected.

Qualifications
-must possess a minimum of one year post-secondary education
-demonstrated interest in environmental and social justice issues
-excellent writing skills
-good interpersonal and communication skills
-must be self-motivated, have good organizational skills and the ability to
work well independently
-a background in research an asset but not required
-knowledge of how to use Quark X-Press or PageMaker is essential.
Eligibility
You must have attended university/college/trade school full-time during the
99/2000 school year and be returning to full-time study in the fall. You
must have been a resident of Nova Scotia for the past six months.

Terms of Employment
Salary: $8.00/hour  30  hours per week, for 12 weeks, plus 4% vacation pay
Position start date: June 12, 2000      Position end date: September 1, 2000


Researcher/Writer [position 2]

Summary of position

Conduct research for nspirg on a wide range of topics that could include
food issues, economic issues and environmental issues. The researcher would
be responsible for providing written reports of research completed, source
material and transcript material from any interviews held. Data collected
would be used by nspirg for publications, pamphlets, press releases and
educational purposes.
There will also be some office hours/duties expected.

Qualifications
-must possess a minimum of one year post-secondary education
-demonstrated interest in environmental and social justice issues
-excellent writing skills
-good interpersonal and communication skills
-must be self-motivated, have good organizational skills and the ability to
work well independently
-a background in research an asset but not required
-knowledge of computers is an asset

Eligibility
