Dear Sust-Mar, Paul, who moderates this list, sent me a posting a while ago which really deserves a wider audience. It's not so often we get such a good laugh in this work we do... And it turns out this posting can be very useful too! One of my friends sent me a message to suggest we do the boycott thing to LOWER gas prices. So, I'm sending Paul's spoof of that (below) along with a little intro explaining that some of us feel gas prices ought to be higher because we're burning fossil fuels like there was no tomorrow... and at this rate, there will be no tomorrow! all the best, Jan ****************************************************** Subject: Rising Gas Prices !!! Boycott! -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- Paul's note: the following is intended a a humour piece. No one is really suggesting you fill Mason jars with gasoline. Got it? :) -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- Tired of low gas prices? Tired of children with asthma, dead Nigerians, maimed cyclists, roadkill, withdrawal of public transit, polluted lakes, superhighways through once-pristine wilderness? Feeling helpless at the pump? Well, there is something you can do! Gas prices are rising. As high as 75 cents per litre in some areas! But this is not enough. Some prices aer still too low! We as consumers have the ability to stop the madness. This is a call to begin a series of boycotts of targeted gas Companies. By working together and targetting specific companies, we as a whole can quickly bring an end to the price manipulation. We can stop motorists from gouging our environment. We can thwart this self-interested boycott. Canada has some of the worlds most beautiful places. Yet we continue to threaten this through exploiting our natural oil reserves at Hibernia, not to mention the Alberta Tar Sands. Our fuel is shipped to the U.S. and sold cheaper than here at home. The price fixing by the Oil Cartel monopoly is simply greed. So too are the actions of motorists, who continue to drive in the face of overwhelming evidence of the effect of their actions. Motorists think that if they all boycott one company at a time, the companies will have no choice but to lower their prices. Beginning Feb. 16/00, we would ask everyone to support ALL Esso (Standard Oil) products. The support shall remain in effect regardless of the price, until it has reached $2.00 per litre, across Canada. Rent a truck if you don't have one. Fill household containers with gasoline. Do what you must. If at that time the other companies have not matched that price, then the next company to support will be Shell, followed by Petro-Canada. Remember, BUY EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING AT ALL from them until the two dollar mark has been reached. Any company lowering its price again, shall be re-targeted. So instead of grumbling to each other at the bike racks and in the hospital and writing useless letters to parliament, here is a chance to actually do something about it. This will only work if the majority of us participate and stick to the target price. If Esso rises to $1.90 and the others are still at 65 (highly unlikely), do not falter. The target is two dollars! You may have to pay more for now, but it will pay off in the long run. So spread the word. Send this to everyone in your address book by e-mail, letter, fax, phone, word of mouth. If everyone participates and we stick to our target, then WE will finally have control. -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- The preceding message was posted on Sustainable Maritimes (sust-mar) -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- Looking for an old message?
