Hello everyone - please distribute far and wide! Coming up this September in Saint John, New Brunswick is the Coastal Zone 2000 Youth Forum. This will be a gathering created by youth, for youth (ages 16-29), with the goal of "creating an inspiring atmosphere where youth are empowered to discuss and act upon issues that affect our coastal areas". Under the theme of Coastal Stewardship: Lessons Learned and the Paths Ahead, we will be closely exploring 4 sub-themes: - Oceans Governance - Community-based Action - Aboriginal Practices and Perspectives - Coastal Health We will be focusing on the ecological footprint concept and responsible citizenship, with action and empowerment being our main goals. We are currently looking for papers, posters, art work, etc. to be submitted by youth (by May 1) for presentation at our Forum. Please send a written abstract if you are interested in presenting your graduate work, an essay, paper, or project. We are also looking for creative submissions such as artwork, songs, poetry, and more. The Coastal Zone 2000 Youth Forum will be an informal setting that will encourage discussion and feedback on your presentation. Accepted submissions will be presented at the Coastal Zone 2000 Youth Forum, which is hoped to attract 175 youth from around the globe. The youth submissions will also be published in the Coastal Zone Canada 2000 Conference proceedings as an addendum. Themes We are looking for presentations that revolve around the following themes: * Aboriginal Practices and Perspectives * Community-based Action * Coastal Health * Oceans Governance The underlying focus of the entire Youth Forum will be the concept of the Ecological Footprint, and personal accountability to our environment's health.
