VIDEO LAUNCH - "Muriel Duckworth Practising Peace"

The new one-hour video documentary, "Muriel Duckworth Practising Peace"
will have its community launch in Halifax on Sunday, October 24 at 2pm at
Pier 21.

For those who can't attend the launch, "Muriel Duckworth Practising
Peace" will be shown on VisionTV on November 3 at 10pm (9pm in the rest
of Canada). That telecast will kick-off a series of independent films
about politicial women of the Atlantic.

The documentary, produced and directed by Halifax filmmaker Pat Kipping,
takes a personal look at this long-time political activist and tries to
uncover what keeps her going as a commited pacifist and social justice
activist, when people half her age feel so discouraged in these cynical
times.

Many people in the peace and social justice communities will remember
Muriel's 90th birthday party last year. At that event Muriel said she was
glad her birthday provided an opportunity for the community to get
together and celebrate for a change. Footage from that celebration is
woven throughout the film and includes a live performance by Four the
Moment and Eleanor's special birthday dance. Other scenes show Muriel in
the early years of her activist career as well as intimite family times.
Original music was composed especially for the video by the Rose Vaughn
Trio.

Film critic, Ron Foley MacDonald said, "This is a loving and thorough
film biography of the much decorated activist Muriel Duckworth. It looks
at a woman whose commitment to peace and social justice issues helped to
shape the sensibilities of several generations. Ranging from the early
days of urban activism in the 1970's to the anti-nuclear movement of the
1980's and to the more recent protest of bombing Yugoslavia, Kipping sees
Duckworth as a warm, generous and intelligent advocate for peace. With
much archival footage and insightful interviews, Muriel Duckworth, the
icon, becomes in the film, Muriel Duckworth the woman, wife, mother and
friend."

This launch is another opportunity to celebrate the visions of peace and
justice that Muriel has shared with so many and which now can be shared
with so many more.

After the screening, there will be an opportunity to meet the people
involved in the making of the documentary and ask questions of the
director and Muriel. A reception will follow and copies of the video
will be available for sale.

This event is free of charge.
