The NSPP has opted to prioritize our environmental problems, starting with the Sydney Tar Ponds. As you can see, we have made the environment one of four of our election planks. The others are investment in people, having the financial means to do it, and a new approach to political work. With respect to use of public transit, that is not now at the top of our list. However, the Party uses a priority setting mechanism to rank environmental and other issues that you may be interested in. Policy 5.2.1 Environmental protection The NSPP believes that the environment is the envelope in which all of us must live. If the envelope is torn or spoiled, it cannot support people. For this reason, the NSPP would place the highest priority on protection of the environment. Policy 5.2.2 Sustainable development The NSPP also believes that it is possible to mitigate the risk of environmental damage, preserve the environment and derive economic benefit from the careful exploitation of the Province’s natural resources. The NSPP would take a long term approach on all environmental issues. Policy 5.2.3 Ensuring that policies around environmental protection and sustainable development do not work to exclude the participation of independent business people ENVIRONMENTAL PLATFORM FOR 1999 ELECTION: the NSPP believes in taking appropriate action to resolve the health and safety issues arising from the Sydney Tar Ponds; we simply have to deal directly with the issue we have concerns about the sustainability of forests in the Province; we believe that public consultation on the future of the forestry industry in the Province is essential the NSPP also has concerns regarding methods of fishing in the Province and licensing; we believe that public consultation on the fisheries is essential the NSPP also wishes to encourage small business in forestry, fishing and farming; we do not believe that one or two fish plants should control the whole industry, for example; there is also a place for small business to get involved in value added tree species replanting we need a long term vision for the management of our forests, fisheries, farms and land use --------------F29F236995E69BC355796708 Content-Type: text/x-vcard; charset=us-ascii; name="vcard.vcf" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Description: Card for Amery Boyer Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="vcard.vcf" begin: vcard fn: Amery Boyer n: Boyer;Amery org: The Human Element, just a different way to manage adr: 5688 North Street;;http://fox.nstn.ca/~amery;HALIFAX;NS;B3K 1N4; email;internet: amery@fox.nstn.ca title: Owner/Manager tel;work: (902) 429-9217 tel;fax: (902) 429-9217 tel;home: (902) 423-4132 x-mozilla-cpt: ;0 x-mozilla-html: FALSE end: vcard --------------F29F236995E69BC355796708-- -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- You received this because you are subscribed to "sust-mar", the Sustainable Maritimes mailing list.
