Let me preface this by saying that i have either voted for or been a member of all 3 major parties at one point in my life. I think only Paul MacEwen can top that record ... :) I've been following our discussion with interest. Thank you Dan for doing research and prompting the PCs to develop a policy (such as it is) on public transit. And thanks to the New Democrat staffers who have contributed. Going in to the leaders debate, i had low expectations ... and i was disappointed. None of the 3 leaders inspired me in the least. McLellan & Hamm appear to have missed their calling as wind-up toys, or telemarketers ... sounding like they were reading carefully rehashed script. [If i performed as well on a job interview, i don't think i'd be hired!] But my point -- and i do have one -- is that as an official member of the "Undecided" Party, i made up my mind to vote for the party whose leader mentionned the environment in tonight's debate. Did i miss something? I didn't hear any of the leaders so much as mention the word. Please let me know if i am wrong. How can we talk about healthcare, without addressing the fact that environmental causes are at the root of so many health problems? How can we talk about the economy without alluding to sustainable development, without which our future will go the way of the cod? The environment is not "one issue" ... it is an issue that is at the root of almost every issue. Concern about the environment is not about loving trees. It's thinking about the future. Native North Americans knew this. 8 year-olds know this. But with respect to Groucho Marx, there aren't any 8-year olds on the ballot! If you live in Halifax Citadel, you have Howard Epstein to vote for. You can't question his devotion to the environment ... altho he apparently has not succeeded at influencing his party members. If you live anywhere else, and you are concerned about the future, i urge you to consider SPOILING YOUR BALLOT. I think that sends a message to the politicians (and i use that term in all its negative sense). It tells them that you went to the trouble of going to the ballot box, but they still weren't worth voting for. And as Dan suggested, it is time to organize a GREEN PARTY of Nova Scotia. I know that Antoni Wysocki is working on gearing up some candidates for the next federal election. I think we need the Green Party here at both federal and provincial levels. I'm tired of wasting my vote. Anyone else interested in going Green? RSVP ~paul :) _________________________________________________________________________ Paul A.
