Regarding both weeding and keeping pests away from your garden plants, I
have found that local insects much prefer local plants to eat, and if I
leave several species of weeds (especially lamb's quarter) in my vegetable
beds, the aphids and other pests will tend to do most if not all their
feasting on the weeds, and leave my vegetables alone.
