COKE, PEPSI, HISTORY AND MATH : A committee of the Halifax regional school
board approved a new policy that will establish guidelines for schools who
want to partner up with big business. The policy aims to define an

SCHOOL BOARD UNIMPRESSED BY YNN: Many members of the Halifax regional
school board were left unimpressed after viewing a sample of the
controversial Youth News Network yesterday. YNN has promised high schools
thousands of dollars in computer and satellite technology in exchange for a
captive audience to watch their commercial sponsored newscasts daily. But
many school board members feel the ads are unacceptable in an educational
setting and that the newscasts offer little educational value. "Our kids
are a pretty sophisticated audience," said Dartmouth school board member
Sandra Everett. "I'm not sure they need a dumbed-down version of the news."
The board will decide next month whether to allow YNN into the city's high
schools. DAILY NEWS, P7
