While a lot of people will be doing last minute Xmas shopping dec 24 on
spring garden rd. in Halifax, they will be surprised to find a large group
of people still protesting what went on in IRAQ, and our elected
officials' consent. For many, this issue is over, and I think it was
planned as a short action to deflect popular pressure in the west.

But the genocide continues, probably a lot more than a half million now-
and after the water and sewer systems are up and running, and medicines
and food are available, Depleted Uranium will still be causing deaths,
including childhood leukemia. When I think of this, I want to renege both
my citizenships.

Here's the PR we sent:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

Thursday, December 24th, a vigil will be held in front of the Spring
Garden Public Library from 10 to noon. The event is meant to focus
attention on the plight of the Iraqi people, and condemn our governments'
support of war as a means of furthering foreign policy objectives. It is
organized by a coalition of groups that includes the Voice of Women,
Quakers, the Islamic Association of the Maritime Provinces and Physicians
for Global Survival.

"This is Barbaric. Twenty-five people were killed, seventy-five more
wounded; ordinary people who are not responsible for Saddam's policies"
says Daina Kulnyf , a member of Voice of Women. "War is not a way an
acceptable way of solving conflicts."

Besides the deaths caused by the four days of bombings, the oil-for food
program is only partly allieviating the problem of the 6000 children who
die every month for lack of food and medicines. Stopping the sanctions is
not only a significant step towards achieving peace in the region, it is
also a moral imperative.
