The following is submitted in answer to a question posed by Derek Roche on this list about 2 years ago. It's not entirely on topic, but it's a slow news day :) ___________________________ People have asked before on this list about "ethical investing" and i finally came across an organisation that helps people do just that: www.web.net/~sio One of the encouraging facts they point out is that while here in Canada there is not enuf data yet to compare conclusively ethical "screened" funds with regular "rape & pillage" mutual funds, in the US studies over time have shown that the average ethical fund performs comparably with unethical funds. Depending on the fund of course. Make sure you get good advice; visiting the SIO website is a start make sure you check into service/mamangement fees, etc. I haven't found those to be any higher with ethical funds. But companies like Investors Group have high fees period. And make sure you check out the fine print ... ie what's in the funds. I discovered that the Credit Union's so-called "Ethical Funds" include a lot of companies that are not what i would call "ethical". Same for Investors Group. Have fun ... and consider investing in a truly ethical investment: my student loan repayment :) ~paul :) -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- You received this because you are subscribed to "sust-mar", the Sustainable Maritimes mailing list.
