Dear sust-mar subscriber, First of all, thank you to everyone who responded to my latest request for feedback. I am pleased to announce today that something that a lot of people have been asking for for a long time is finally going to happen. Please read carefully: this message announces changes in how you will read and post to sust-mar. Yes, we will soon be NEW & IMPROVED! After that dramatic buildup :) the big change is that there will be TWO lists. "sust-mar" and "sust-more" The former will be a moderated list. In fact, it already is. Sometime in the night of December 2, the iron curtain came down. As of that date, sust-mar became a moderated list, meaning that only messages approved by the listowner will be seen by subscribers. This will meet with wild approval by some. Others will burn me in effigy. I've been around the buoy enough to know that there is no one solution that will please everyone. It was after much soul-searching that i decided to make this change. [after much searching i couldn't find one :) Seriously tho, the 3 factors which prompted this change were: - feedback (polite and otherwise) from subscribers - my workload (it came down to a choice between moderating or shutting down the list) - dwindling subscribership (with our numbers at their lowest levels since sust-mar started, something had to be done) "Approved" is a misnomer, b/c it will not be a matter of whether i approve or agree with the contents, but rather whether/not the message is on topic. It will also be a matter of regulating the flow of posts to a, er ... sustainable level! I could use your guidance with both of these: Q1: How many messages do you want on sust-mar? Is one-a-day good? Q2: What scope of content do you want? Not want? Those of you who are hurling oaths at me right now will be excited about sust-mar's new sister list, sust-more. Think of the new list as sust-mar's younger, rebellious sister. This will be an unmoderated list where most anything goes. There is one catch: some assembly is required. Since soliciting feedback (last month?) i have had several nibbles, but no one has yet definitively said they are willing to shepherd the new unmoderated list. Even tho it will be unmoderated, every list needs an administrative "owner". I'll be posting more later on how to post to the moderated sust-mar. Actually, little has really changed. You still send your mail to the same address [NOT directly to me]. One piece of advice would be to plan ahead and get messages in early b/c they will no longer be posted instantly. Finally, if you are sending feedback, death threats, etc to me, please make sure you include the words "sust-mar" somewhere in your message, to be sure i see it. enjoy! ~paul :)
